Visiting Bali and looking for an honest Samanvaya review? You’re in the right place!
Samanvaya Adults-Only Resort sits in the heart of Sidemen, one of Bali’s most beautiful and underrated regions.
Surrounded by verdant rice fields and sweeping valley views, this boutique resort blends luxury with nature in the most effortless way. Think private villas, warm hospitality, and an atmosphere that instantly slows you down.
Of course, there’s much more to this adults-only escape, and in this review, I’ll share all the details of what to expect.

QUICK ANSWERS: SAMANVAYA BALI
Let’s start by answering some questions that you may have before booking, such as the location, how to get there, eco-friendly measures, and whether it’s really worth staying here.
WHERE IS SAMANVAYA RESORT BALI?
Samanvaya is located in Sidemen Valley in East Bali, about 90 minutes from the airport, 1 hour from Ubud, and around 2 hours from Canggu/Seminyak.
Sidemen is filled with sweeping rice terraces with Mount Agung rising in the background. It’s quiet, unhurried, and feels a world away from Bali’s busy tourist hotspots.
HOW TO GET TO SAMANVAYA RESORT IN BALI?
Sideman is easily accessible, and there are a few transportation options available:
- Private transfer: Samanvaya can assist with arranging private transfers from your hotel or airport pick-up, and the cost is 1,000,000 IDR.
- Grab or Gojek: These are the alternatives to Uber in Asia. Download the Grab or Gojek app on your smartphone and order a car or scooter transfer online.
- Rent a car with a driver: This is a popular option if you want to do a full-day trip, stopping at temples or viewpoints along the way.

IS SAMANVAYA BALI ECO-FRIENDLY?
Yes, and they take the sustainability part seriously. The majority of the villas are built by local craftsmen using bamboo, reclaimed wood, and traditional thatched roofs, so everything fits the region.
They run with almost no waste, avoid single-use plastics, use eco-friendly products, and buy ingredients from local farmers.
Their Support Sidemen program also puts money back into local villages, and their bookable activities use local guides and businesses.

IS SAMANVAYA ADULTS-ONLY WORTH IT?
Yes, it’s totally worth it if you want to experience the quieter side of Bali. Swap beaches for mountain views, rice fields, and a proper laid-back vibe.
Rooms are reasonably priced and the quality is 5-star. Some features include outdoor tubs, villas with private pools, comfortable beds, and thoughtful amenities.
The resort grounds are just as impressive, with a serene bathhouse, cosy lounges, a pool bar for sundowners, and two on-site restaurants overlooking the valley.
Sidemen remains underdeveloped, where you can still experience traditional arts and crafts, visit temples without busloads of tourists, and experience what the island felt like decades ago.

ACCOMMODATION & ROOM TYPES
In this Samanvaya review, I’ll walk you through the two distinct villa categories on offer, which are the Lifestyle Villas scattered throughout the rice terraces and the newer Wellness Villas overlooking the river.
LIFESTYLE VILLAS
The Lifestyle Villas have a lot of character and reflect the real feel of Sidemen. Each one is unique, crafted by local artisans using reclaimed timber and sustainable hardwoods.
You also get access to two infinity pools facing the rice fields, a jacuzzi, and both restaurants.
SUNDARI VILLA
This is the most affordable option, but it doesn’t feel basic. The villas are close to the main pool, with views over the gardens and rice fields from the balcony.
You wake up to the sounds of nature, have a private balcony to relax on, and a semi-open bathroom that gives you fresh air without losing comfort.
It’s a nice option if you travel as a couple. You get access to all the resort’s facilities and a hearty breakfast in the morning.

MANDALA VILLA
Mandala is a step up from Sundari, featuring a bigger balcony with hillside and rice field views, plus more space overall.
The look mixes rustic materials with modern comfort, and the garden setting gives you privacy without feeling shut in.
The bed is comfortable, the seating area is practical, and the bathroom has everything you need.

SAMUDRA VILLA
Samudra means “ocean view,” and the villa earns the name. It’s at the far end of the resort with complete privacy and clear views over the rice terraces and out toward the sea.
The villa is built mainly from bamboo and flows naturally from the air-conditioned bedroom to the open living space. You also get a plunge pool that faces the valley.
It’s quiet, spacious, and a good fit if you want a deeper connection to the landscape around Sidemen.

ALILA VILLA
The Alila Villa is similar to Sundari and Mandala, but bigger, better, and more premium. It’s a multi-level villa that reimagines traditional design with luxury.
There’s a private garden that surrounds the deep stone bathtub and semi-open bathroom. You’ll also find a separate lounge and dining area for some space to spread out.
The panoramic valley views from different levels make these villas feel like your own private compound in the rice fields.

OTHER LIFESTYLE VILLAS
Beyond the main villas, Samanvaya Resort has a few more options that keep the same atmosphere. Each one has its own layout and style, but they all follow the same handcrafted look the resort is known for.
- Kayu Villa: Inspired by African lodge design, this garden-view villa has warm wooden interiors, air-conditioning, a mini bar, and a semi-open bathroom. It’s located next to koi ponds and quiet garden spaces.
- Jala 2 Bedroom Villa: A good choice for small groups who want more space while staying close to Sidemen’s natural setting.
- Moana 2 Bedroom Villa: A spacious option with a mix of indoor comfort and open living areas, perfect for a longer stay.
- Asmara Villa: A private, quiet villa surrounded by greenery. Nice for couples who want extra privacy.
- Rice Barn Villa: Built with traditional lines and simple modern touches. It feels grounded and calm, with a focus on natural materials.
- Kenyeri Villa: Spacious villa with views of koi ponds and rice terraces. Private terrace, deep bathtub, rain shower, air conditioning, mini bar, safe.
- Batari Villa: A larger option with breathtaking views and plenty of space to spread out. This is the highest villa, so this is all about the views.

WELLNESS VILLAS
The Wellness Villas are located across the valley from the Lifestyle Villas. They’re above the river with clear views over the landscape. They’re the newest part of Samanvaya and are built with rest and recovery in mind.
Each villa has a private pool, and you also get access to the wellness bathhouse with a sauna, steam room, cold plunge, medium plunge, and hot tub.
There are only 10 Wellness Villas, and they’re spaced out along the hillside for privacy.

MAYA VILLA (SIGNATURE HONEYMOON VILLA)
This villa takes traditional Indonesian design and gives it a modern, thoughtful update. It’s built for couples marking something special.
Featuring an open-plan layout, a private pool, a hot tub, a small private gym, and a media room with a Sonos system.
The views stretch over the rice terraces from both inside and out. There’s air-conditioning, a stocked mini bar, a Nespresso machine, and a brass bathtub. It’s a calm, well-designed space made for slow days.
It’s one of the most sought-after villas at Samanvaya Resort Bali, so be sure to book in advance!

SARI VILLA
These wellness-focused villas are beautifully designed and perched along the valley edge with wide views of the rice fields and hills.
Each villa has a private pool, an indoor spa bath with jet streams, and an in-room projector for watching your favorite series on Netflix.
The mix of stone and timber gives the villa a warm, grounded feel. It’s private without feeling cut off.

MULIA VILLA
Mulia builds on everything people like about Sari. Boasting a garden setting, clear views of the river and valley, and an outdoor stone bathtub under the open sky.
There’s a private pool, an indoor spa bath, an in-room projector, and the same blend of stone and wood that ties everything together.
It works well for honeymoons and for those who want privacy and space.

SUNGAI RESIDENCE
This is the most exclusive option at Samanvaya. It’s a two-bedroom retreat overlooking the rice terraces, the river, and Mount Agung.
Boasting an infinity pool and hot tub, a cinema room, a personal gym, a fully equipped kitchen, luxury living and dining areas, and beautifully designed bedrooms with spacious bathrooms.
It’s made for people who want the highest level of comfort Samanvaya Resort Bali offers.

AMENITIES AT SAMANVAYA BALI
Samanvaya has everything from relaxing spa treatments and delicious food across its two restaurants to beautiful pools, a well-equipped gym, and plenty of activities to fill your day.
Every corner is designed to make your stay calm and easy, or as adventurous as you want it to be.
ASRI DINING RESTAURANT
Asri is the main restaurant located in their garden area with open views over the rice fields. The food leans toward Mediterranean and Western dishes with a few Balinese touches.
You can order things like wood-fired pizzas, lasagna, and simple salads made with local produce. The menu changes throughout the year depending on what’s available.

SAHAJA RESTAURANT
Sahaja sits in a beautiful Javanese-style building overlooking the rice fields. Unlike Asri, the kitchen here focuses on Asian–Indonesian dishes inspired by Sidemen’s local flavours.
You’ll want to try the ginger soy barramundi, lemongrass chicken, and the standout kaffir lime cheesecake. All are to die for!
It’s also where your daily included breakfast is served each morning, the perfect way to start the day with those valley views.
The upstairs dining room catches the best views, but be sure to make a reservation because it often gets full.

SPA & WELLNESS CENTER
Ananda Spa offers traditional Balinese treatments and other modern methods. The therapists are experienced, and the massages will send you into complete zen.
The spa now features a full bathhouse complete with a sauna, steam room, cold plunge, medium plunge, and hot tub. It’s designed as a true wellbeing experience.
I’m confident in saying that this is by far the best wellness spa in Bali.

FITNESS CENTER
The fitness center features modern equipment in a clean, bright space, including cardio machines, free weights, and an area for stretching. It has everything you need to keep on top of your routine.
The gym looks out over the valley, so you can work out with a view!

SWIMMING POOLS
There are three swimming pools at Samanvaya Resort Bali.
Two are located in front of the Lifestyle Villas and look out over the rice fields, perfect for late-afternoon swims, and the third is located next to the Wellness Villas overlooking the river.
There’s also a natural-temperature jacuzzi and a hot tub, which are great at dusk when the colors in the valley start to pop.
The pool bar offers happy hour cocktails from 5-6 pm every night. You’ll find a cozy lounge area here with board games where you can settle in for the evening.
It’s a nice spot to grab a drink and unwind after a day of exploring Sidemen.

KOLEKTIF STORE
Kolektif & Co is the resort’s boutique shop where you can buy souvenirs. But not just any souvenirs, these are handcrafted textiles, silk, and linen pieces made by local Balinese artisans.
The store focuses on sustainable fashion and ethical production, and they work directly with craftspeople from the Sidemen community. You can pick up beautifully made clothing, home goods, and unique pieces that support local makers.
The ongoing initiatives here help strengthen the surrounding community. You’re taking home something special while supporting the artisans who created it.

SHUTTLE SERVICE
The resort can organize shuttle transfers for an extra fee. You can book drop-offs in Ubud, rides to the coast, or short trips to nearby temples.
It’s a great service if you don’t want to deal with arranging transport on your own, especially if it’s your first time in Bali.

THINGS TO DO IN SIDEMEN VALLEY
There is a lot to explore beyond the resort in Sidemen Valley, and the team can arrange everything from waterfall visits to sunrise hikes, cooking classes, and white-water rafting.
Here are the experiences you can book in and around Sidemen Valley:
- Village Life Tour: Walk through local communities and see how people live day to day.

FINAL THOUGHTS – SAMANVAYA REVIEW
If you’re willing to trade the usual Bali tourist spots for something more authentic, Samanvaya Bali is not to be missed on your itinerary.
The villas are top-notch, the setting is stunning, and the whole place feels thoughtfully put together.
It’s a little pricier compared to budget options in Bali, but you’re paying for quality, location, and the kind of experience that’s hard to find anywhere else on the island.
